Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Solid First Half Not Enough for No. 19 Spirit on Road

The OUAZ men's soccer team got the start it desired on the road Thursday, as Jamaine Turner scored to give the Spirit a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. Host Vanguard was able to score twice near the midpoint of the second half, and held on to defeat the 19th-ranked Spirit 2-1 in Costa Mesa, Calif.

Turner scored his fourth goal in two games, continuing his hot streak from his hat trick last Thursday. Tom Cohen got the assist on the tally, extending his team lead in points and now has at least a point in seven of the last eight contests.

It was a game that did not see a lot of offensive opportunities, as the teams combined for seven shots on target and 13 total shot attempts. There was plenty of physical play, as there were 34 fouls in 90 minutes, and six yellow cards handed out in the contest.

The Lions scored its two goals in the second half, coming just 6:10 seconds apart. Angel Ramirez made a pair of saves, one in each half, as he started his 16th straight game for the Spirit.

OUAZ will get back on the pitch Saturday when they visit San Diego Christian. Kickoff from Santee, Calif. is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
