Simbo’s Overtime Strike Puts OUAZ Into Conference Tournament

SURPRISE, Ariz. – With the possibility of hosting a game in the upcoming GSAC Men's Soccer Tournament in the balance, Tinashe Simbo delivered a brilliant strike in the 96th minute to secure a 1-0 win for OUAZ over Arizona Christian on Saturday at Spirit Field.

The goal earned OUAZ (11-3-1, 4-2-1 GSAC) to No. 4 seed for the tournament and a home game against the same Arizona Christian (10-3-2, 4-3-1) squad on November 6.

After receiving the ball from Kebba Jobe, Simba took two touches to his left and snuck a left-footed shot just under the crossbar from 20 yards away to ignite the celebration from the Spirit bench.

Each team had chances to take the lead during regulation, but both keepers were up to the challenge. Neither team could get one of the combined 12 shots on goal through until Simbo delivered in the overtime period.

The game ended with Arizona Christian holding a 12-11 advantage in total shots. OUAZ took nine corner kicks and totaled seven shots on goal.

Angel Ramirez continued his excellent season with six saves to notch his eighth shutout.

The game time for the rematch in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament has yet to be determined.
