Spirit Head to California for Two Key GSAC Matchups

With just three games remaining in the regular season, the OUAZ women's soccer team will embark on a two-game road trip to California this weekend, with a run towards the GSAC title still in reach. OUAZ will begin the trip at The Master's on Thursday at 1 p.m. The Spirit will then play at Westmont on Saturday at 3:15 p.m.

OUAZ will take an 8-2-3 overall record into the trip, and the Spirit are fourth in the GSAC with a 2-0-3 record with nine points. They trail conference leader William Jessup by two points, with the top five teams in the conference all within three points of each other. This season, the Spirit is 5-2 on the road and has won two straight away from Spirit Field.

Entering the final road trip of the regular season, OUAZ is tied for second in the GSAC with 32 goals scored, and they are second with 222 shots attempted. The team has attempted at least 20 shots in three of the past four games played and six times overall this season.

Cassidi Calzaretta leads the Spirit and is second in the GSAC with ten goals scored, and her four game-winners are the most in the conference and rank toed for 15th in the NAIA. She has scored in each of the past two games – including a pair of goals against Hope International on Saturday – and has three multi-goal games this season.

Saipress Jones has added six goals and is tied with Calzaretta for the team lead with 22 shots on goal.

OUAZ maintains a 0.88 goals-against-average with just 12 goals allowed in the team's 13 games played. The Spirit has allowed multiple goals in a game just three times during the year while conceding 9.54 shots per game. OUAZ is fourth in the conference with five shutouts.

Cassidy Samuelson has given up five goals with a 0.95 GAA while posting a 3-0-1 record. She has recorded 15 saves with a .750 save percentage.

Chloe Gutierrez maintains a 4-2-2 record with a pair of shutouts. She has surrendered seven goals for a 0.97 GAA while making 36 saves to hold a .837 save percentage.

OUAZ has gone 2-2-1 against The Master's, and the Spirit has won two straight over the Mustangs. The teams have split the two meetings in Santa Clarita, with OUAZ winning the last meeting 1-0 this past March. In the five matchups, the Spirit has outscored the Mustangs 8-7.

The series against Westmont has been all Warriors, and they have won all three previous meetings. That includes the two last outings in Santa Barbara, both during the 2019 season. OUAZ is still searching for its first goal against Westmont, having been outscored in the series 12-0.
