Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

(17)Spirit Win Streak Ends at Four in Conference Opener

SURPRISE, ARIZ. - The OUAZ men's soccer team entered conference play with seven wins and averaging nearly three goals a game. The offense had been in stride over the last few games, and seemingly a hot goaltender would slow down the Spirit.

That is exactly what OUAZ ran into in its conference-opening game on Thursday night, as Menlo's Nico Feusi held the Spirit off the scoreboard to give the Oaks the 1-0 win. The freshman keeper made seven saves as the Spirit fall in the opening GSAC game for the first time in program history.

OUAZ had many chances, none much better than Tom Cohen's free kick from 19 yards out after Feusi mistakenly picked up the ball outside of the 18-yard box. Cohen nearly had the top right corner to equalize the game for the Spirit, and that was not the last time OUAZ would get so close to pushing for a tie.

The Spirit finished the evening with 13 shots, seven of those on target. OUAZ also had many chances off set pieces, and the Spirit were able to rack up eight corner kicks. The only tally of the game came from Menlo's Caden Mink in the 27'.

A chance at a weekend split presents itself Saturday when OUAZ hosts William Jessup on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff from Spirit Field is scheduled for 12:30PM.
