OUAZ Completes Weekend Sweep of Life Pacific

SAN DIMAS, Calif. – It wasn't the prettiest offensive weekend for the OUAZ men's basketball team, but they made program history anyway by sweeping a road weekend in conference play for the first time after a 65-61 win over Life Pacific on Saturday afternoon at Mehl Court.
 
It was another second half run that proved to be the difference for OUAZ (7-1, 2-0 GSAC) on Saturday. Leading 44-42 with 11:14 to play in the game, the Spirit put together an 18-3 run over the ensuing five minutes, 42 seconds to reach the larget lead of the night of 10 with 5:32 remaining.
 
Life Pacific (0-2, 0-2) was able to get the deficit back within two with 48 seconds to play despite not making a basket over the final 3:29 of the game. Kam Malbrough sealed the Spirit win with a driving layup with 17 seconds on the clock.
 
During the decisive run, OUAZ made 7 of 9 shots with three 3-pointers and they held LPU to 1 of 6 shooting – all threes – and forced three turnovers.
 
Malbrough led the Spirit in scoring for the second straight game with 23 points in his return to the starting lineup. The junior went 5 of 8 from beyond the arc and added five assists and one steal.
 
OUAZ ended the game shooting 47.8 percent from the field after making 54.2 percent in the second half. They hit 10 of 18 from beyond the arc
 
Devin Collins added 17 points and nine rebounds.
 
Life Pacific shot 32.8 percent and was 4 of 27 from beyond the arc. Adam Saavedra led the Warriors with 16 points.
 
The Spirit will now get set to host a two-game series against No. 9 The Master's next weekend in Faith Arena. Tipoff on Friday is at 7 p.m. with the game on Saturday scheduled for a 2 p.m. tip.
