SURPRISE, ARIZ. - The OUAZ Cheer and Dance teams showed off all of its hard work by putting on amazing performances at various OUAZ home events, as well as all the Arizona Interscolastic Association State Qualifiers.
In an effort prepare for the 2020 USA Collegiate Nationals, the teams dedicated nearly 650 hours in practices and games, participated in 45+ community service events, plus countless hours of academic work. The teams' strong commitment to each other and belief in their program drove both squads to a successful season and great representation at nationals.
The Dance team placed 6th overall and had an amazing Pom routine performance on the Nationals stage. The Coed Cheer team placed 2nd overall, and each member was awarded a silver medal from the 2020 USA Collegiate Nationals. The overall finish for both teams at nationals is incredible, as the Cheer team was combined in a NCAA Division II & III category, and the Dance team was in an all encompassing 4-year university that showcased NCAA DI, DII, & DIII Pom category. Head Coach Kari states,
"To qualify and attend nationals is an accomplishment in itself," Cheer and Dance head coach
Kari Kratchman said. "To hold our own in combined divisions is tough and we couldn't be more proud of all of our athletes."

OUAZ Cheer and Dance Team seniors Natani Nixon (middle left) and Justice Hardy (middle right) were recognized for all of their hard work to the program during their time with the Spirit.
The teams celebrated the hard work of two seniors:
Natani Nixon and
Justice Hardy. Nixon shined on the cheer team, while Hardy excelled with the dance during her time at OUAZ. Their contributions to the program will always be remembered.
