SURPRISE, ARIZ. - Despite being eliminated from a potential GSAC tournament spot, the OUAZ women's basketball team had an opportunity to clinch its first-ever postseason berth on Saturday. A win over William Jessup to close out the regular season would have qualified the Spirit for the National Christian College Athletic Association tournament, but one running theme ended the Spirit's season: one bad quarter.
William Jessup outscored OUAZ 22-6 in the second quarter, and did not look back as they took home an 81-50 victory on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors had nine different players record a field goal while shooting nearly 50% from the field (30-63).
Mickey Freeman finished her outstanding season with yet another double-double, as she finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Freeman had five double-doubles in just 15 games played, and recorded three in the Spirit's last four games.
Natasa Radovic wrapped up her sensational freshman season with a 15-point, seven point performance to go along with a block, a steal and an assist. Radovic led the team for most of the season in many categories, including points and rebounds.
While the Spirit will not be making the postseason, they wrapped up a record-breaking season that saw a lot of growth. They won the most games ever in a season, and already improved on its GSAC record from the first season. The team was also one of the better rebounding teams, entering the weekend grabbing the second-most boards per game in the NAIA.
