ATHERTON, Calif. – The first real road trip of the season for the OUAZ baseball team got off to a rocky start as Menlo swept a doubleheader to start a four-game Golden State Athletic Conference series. Menlo won the first game 14-8 and then rallied to win the second game 4-3.
OUAZ now holds a 5-13 overall record and they are 2-6 in GSAC play. Menlo improved to 10-11 overall and 5-5 in the conference with the two wins.
GAME 1
Menlo scored five runs in the bottom of the first and the Oaks had three home runs in the game. Every time OUAZ would get within striking distance, Menlo would answer to rebuild its advantage.
Jared Crockett and
Adrian Salazar each had two hits and two runs scored in the game. Salazar had a double and two RBI.
Griffin Hagen knocked in three runs.
Dylan Chelini (0-2) took the loss after giving up those five runs in the first inning.
Kapono Rawlins allowed two runs in 3.2 innings of work.
GAME 2

OUAZ got a runner into scoring position with two outs in the top of the seventh, but
Johnny Cherpak flew out to end the game.
Salazar had another two hits in the loss to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. OUAZ had seven hits overall.
Taylor Campos (1-3) suffered the loss on the mound after giving up all four runs in five-plus innings.
QUOTING COACH
We had a chance to split today, but we had too many mental mistakes," OUAZ head coach
Tim Montez said. "The game is hard enough as it is so when we start giving free passes and when we don't execute the little things you start playing uphill. When you don't respect the game, the game will bite you in the end and we saw that today. This game isn't going to go away and feel sorry for you. We will see tomorrow how tough minded we are with how we answer back."
LOOKING AHEAD
The Spirit and Oaks will play another doubleheader on Saturday at Cartan Field with game one scheduled to start at noon (AZ).
