The Spirit had an opportunity to pull even with sixth-place Menlo in the GSAC standings on Saturday, as the Oaks lost to Vanguard at home. OUAZ could not hold up its end of the bargain, as they lost to Hope International, 93-68, in Fullerton, Calif.
Despite leading 21-17 after the first quarter, the Spirit trailed by five at the half as the Royals went on a 20-7 run to close out the second quarter. OUAZ shot 69.2% from the field in the third quarter, but Hope extended its lead by three heading into the fourth quarter as they shot 68.8% in the same frame.
The game got away from the Spirit in the fourth quarter, as they were outscored 28-11 to close out the afternoon. The Royals continued the hot shooting into the fourth, as they shot 61.1 in the final ten minutes, while OUAZ went 3-14.
Natasa Radovic continues her impressive season with yet another double-double, scoring 22 points to go along with 12 rebounds. She was hot from the floor all night long, shooting 7-12 and going 8-9 at the free throw line. Radovic also had three assists and a steal.
Mickey Freeman was just as impressive, as she poured in 21 points on an incredible 9-15 shooting. She was two rebounds shy of a double-double and tied for the team-high seven defensive rebounds on the afternoon.
Kirsten Shinske added ten points, and was a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. She was all over the stat sheet as she also had three assists and two steals.
Hope had four players score in double digits, led by 18 from Taryn Uyematsu. Rhianne Omori scored 15 points, all from behind the arc as she went a perfect 5-5 from deep.
The Spirit will come back to Faith Arena to close out the regular season with a two-game homestand. First up in the final week of conference play is Menlo College, and tip-off for that matchup is scheduled for 5:30pm AZ Time.
