OUAZ MEN'S BASKETBALL NOTES
• After playing at Faith Arena for the first time in over a month last week, the OUAZ men's basketball team will now return to the road to play their next four games, including two games this week in northern California.
• This week's trip begins on Thursday, January 23, when the Spirit face William Jessup in Rocklin, Calif. at 8:30 p.m. (AZ). The game will be played at Warrior Arena on the William Jessup campus. OUAZ will then have a day off before playing at Menlo College on Saturday, January 25, at 5 p.m. (AZ). That game is at Haynes-Prim Pavilion in Atherton, Calif.
• The Spirit head back to the road with a 6-10 overall record and winners of two of their past three games. They are tied for eighth in the Golden State Athletic Conference with a 2-5 record in conference play.
• William Jessup will enter Thursday at 13-6 overall and tied for second in the GSAC with a 5-2 record. The Warriors are 8-1 at home this season and they have won six of their past seven games overall.
• Menlo will start the week at 10-6 on the season and in fifth-place in the conference with their 4-3 GSAC record. The Oaks are 4-1 at home and are winners of three straight, including an upset of the No. 2-ranked Master's.
• OUAZ is still looking for its first win in three all-time meetings against William Jessup. The Spirit are 0-2 all-time in Rocklin, including an 85-68 loss last season.
• Menlo leads the series with OUAZ 2-0 with each meeting coming last season. The Oaks defeated the Spirit 96-71 in last year's game in Atherton.

OUAZ TIDBITS
• OUAZ split their two home games last week, upsetting No. 18 Hope International 83-79 before falling to Life Pacific 100-96 in double overtime. The win over Hope was the program's first over a ranked opponent while the Life game was the program's first-ever double overtime contest.
• Putting the ball in the basket has been a strength of this year's Spirit team as they are 16th in the NAIA in scoring at 86.56 points per game. The team has scored 70-plus points in every game this season and gone for 80-plus nine times.
• They are 18th nationally by shooting 48.4 percent from the field. The team has shot at least 50 percent in a game five times and been above 45 percent in all but three games they have played.
• OUAZ is also solid at the foul line where the convert 74.5 percent as a team to rank 10th in the country. They have made at least 75 percent at the stripe eight times.
• Starting the week, OUAZ is 43rd in the NAIA by distributing 14.88 assists per game. The team has recorded at least 12 assists in a game 11 times.
• OUAZ opponents are scoring 84.9 points per game and shooting 45.0 percent from the field. The Spirit force 16.8 turnovers per game and rank 22nd in the NAIA by getting 8.63 steals per outing.
TRIPLE THREAT
• OUAZ features the top two leading scorers in the GSAC entering the week and three of the top seven.
Dimetres Moore (22.8) leads the conference with
Brian Carey (19.8) second and
Shazier Lawson (16.7) seventh.
• All three of those players are ranked in the top-50 in scoring in the NAIA this season and OUAZ is one of six teams with at least two players in the top-50 and the only team with two in the top-20.
• The Spirit trio are the highest scoring trio in the NAIA at 59.33 points per game. That leads a trio from LSU Shreveport that combines to average 59.22 points per game. Moore, Carey, and Lawson are accounting for 66 percent of the team's total points this season.
LEANING ON MOORE
•
Dimetres Moore is the leader of that trio by scoring 22.8 points per game. That is good for tops in the GSAC and sixth in the NAIA. Moore has scored 20-plus points in a game 11 times this season and had 30-plus points in a game three times.
• Moore isn't just a scoring threat for the Spirit as he is second on the team by grabbing 6.7 rebounds per game while adding 1.6 assists per outing.Â
• Moore is also active at the defensive end where his 2.81 steals per game are tops in the conference and fifth in the nation. He has recorded at least one steal in all but one game of the season and has 11 games with multiple steals.
• Moore narrowly missed the first triple-double in program history against Embry-Riddle when he recorded 24 points, 10 rebounds, and a school record nine steals. Those nine steals are the most by a player in the Golden State Athletic Conference since the 2010-11 season.
FIRST TO 1,000
• Moore became the all-time leading scorer at OUAZ when he scored his 777th career point at San Diego Christian on January 11. He is trending towards becoming the program's first-ever 1,000-point scorer.
• He enters the week with 819 points at OUAZ and needing to average 15.1 points per game over the final 12 regular season games to reach the milestone.
ASSIST FROM CAREY
•
Brian Carey saw his scoring average rise during December when he posted seven straight games of at least 20 points. He has nine 20-point outings overall this season to average 19.8 points per game to rank 11th in the NAIA.
• Along with being the team's No. 2 scoring option, Carey has 92 assists and is on pace to surpass the single-season school record of 107. He sits sixth in the NAIA at 5.75 assists per game while recording at least five assists in a game 10 times this season.
BOARDS FROM LAWSON
•
Shazier Lawson is scoring 16.71 points per game where he ranks 47th in the NAIA. Lawson has scored in double figures in 13 of the 14 games he has played this season with four 20-point outings, including two straight.
• Lawson also collects 9.36 rebounds per game to rank him ninth in the NAIA and second in the GSAC. He has at least six rebounds in every game this season with five games in double figures.
• He also ranks seventh in the NAIA by getting 7.07 defensive rebounds per night and his five double-doubles lead the team and tie for the GSAC lead.
ABOUT WILLIAM JESSUP
• William Jessup has 191 makes from beyond the arc to rank as eighth-most in the NAIA. They are 16th by hitting 10.05 threes per game and 29th at 36.7 percent from deep.
• The Warriors are averaging 80.63 points per game and allowing 74.53 to the opposition.
• Isaiah Milan leads the team by scoring 17.11 points per game while adding 4.37 assists per contest.
ABOUT MENLO
• Menlo comes into this week's action eighth in the NAIA by shooting 40.5 percent from beyond the arc while making 9.38 threes per game to sit 23rd nationally.
• They are scoring 80.69 points per night and giving up 72.50 at the defensive end. The Oaks hold a 1.27 assist-to-turnover ratio and they get 8.13 steals per game.
• Ross Williams leads the team in scoring at 14.88 points per game and he is third in the NAIA by converting 88.0 percent at the foul line.
LOOKING AHEAD
• The Spirit will head back to the road next week for one of the toughest road trips in the NAIA to start the second half of GSAC play.
• OUAZ begins in Santa Clarita, Calif., on Thursday, January 30, to face No. 7 The Master's at 8:30 p.m. (AZ).
• They will then visit No. 4 Westmont on Saturday, February 1, at 4 p.m. (AZ) in Santa Barbara, Calif.
