SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team picked up its first win of the season in a 3-0 sweep of SAGU American Indian College on Tuesday night at Willow Canyon High School.
OUAZ (1-5) faced little resistance from the crosstown foes in the 25-8, 25-13, 25-174 victory. The Spirit hit a season-best .337 with 43 kills in the win as they improved to 10-0 all-time against SAGU.
The Spirit had 14 kills in each of the first two sets and then closed out the win with 15 kills in the final frame. They limited the Warriors to just 11 kills for the match and kept them to .000 hitting as a team.
Avie Butsko led the way for OUAZ with 13 kills for second double-digit kill effort of the season. She also hit .545 in the win.
Austin Edwards added seven kills with
Katie Defer and
Skyler Traut posting five kills apiece.
In forcing SAGU into 11 hitting errors, OUAZ came up with three blocks and 37 digs. They also finished with 15 service aces.
Traut led all players with three blocks while
Camila Mitton,
Celina Padilla, and
Leni Bartley had six digs apiece to lead the team. Bartley added six aces and Defer had five.
Kanoe Vinoya distributed 35 assists.
OUAZ will continue their four-match home week on Wednesday when they welcome their newest Arizona rival, Park Gilbert, to Willow Canyon High School at 7 p.m.
