COSTA MESA, Calif. – The OUAZ softball team opened their weekend against ranked GSAC opponents by dropping both games of a doubleheader at No. 12 Vanguard. The Lions opened the day with an 8-0 win in five innings before completing the sweep with a 4-2 win in game two.
The pair of losses moves OUAZ to 12-23 on the season and drops them to 6-12 in the GSAC.
GAME 1
The Spirit managed just an infield single from
Marissa Zacchio in the top of the third inning in falling in the opener. Vanguard totaled 10 hits to score their eight runs with multiple runs in an inning three times.
Alexandra McCutcheon (5-9) was tagged for eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits with six walks and zero strikeouts.
GAME 2
OUAZ would get on the board in the top of the first when
Emily Stebbins drove home
Miranda Davis with a single. The Lions tied the game in the bottom of the inning and then scored three times in the third innings to open a 4-1 lead.
Alicia Young would drive Davis home with a sacrifice fly in the Spirit's half of the fifth inning, but that would be the final tally of the game for either team.
Davis would record three of the team's eight hits for her team-leading 11th multi-hit game of the season.
Kelly Stumper would add a pair of hits with Young delivering a double. Davis would also add her 28th stolen base of the season.
Bailey Coronado (6-8) took the loss in the circle after allowing four unearned runs on just four hits with three strikeouts.

The Spirit will now head for Fullerton, California where they will play a doubleheader against No. 7 Hope International on Saturday at noon.
