FULLERTON, Calif. – The OUAZ baseball team dropped a pair of games at Hope International on Friday afternoon at Amerige Park. OUAZ fell in the first game 22-7 before Hope International won the second game 4-2.
With the sweep, OUAZ has now dropped six straight and they are 8-9 overall and 0-6 in Golden State Athletic Conference play. HIU improves to 13-8 and 8-2 in the GSAC with the two wins.
GAME 1
The Spirit would strike with two runs in the top of the first without recording a hit, but the Royals posted six runs in the bottom of the inning and never looked back. The home side banged out 20 hits while adding a 6-run sixth and 5-run seventh along the way.
OUAZ finished with nine hits, including a 3-run home run from
Adrian Salazar and a double by
Derek Hayenga. Salazar and
Esteban Martinez would add two-hit games in defeat.
Hayden Durkiewicz (1-2) took the loss after allowing eight runs on nine hits in two innings.
GAME 2
Juan Navarrete put the Spirit in front 1-0 with an RBI single in the top of the second inning. After HIU tied the game in the bottom of the third, the Royals would add three in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 4-1.
OUAZ got one back in the top of the fifth when
Ryan Mortensen hit his first home run of the season to left field. The Spirit wouldn't get another hit over the final three innings.
Martinez would post another 2-hit game.
Austin Shumaker would add a hit to extend his hitting streak to five games.
Cole Anderson (1-2) allowed four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts in five innings.
Taylor Campos worked a perfect sixth with one strikeout.
