ROLLING HILLS, Calif. – The OUAZ men's tennis team kept its hopes alive for a second-place finish in the Golden State Athletic Conference with a 6-3 win at Marymount California on Friday afternoon.
OUAZ (8-5, 5-3 GSAC) got out to an early lead with a pair of wins in doubles action. The No. 1 pair of
Leonardo Couto and
Eduardo Couto claimed their match 8-6 while
Austin Todd and
Jordan Petrie won the No. 3 match 8-5.
The Spirit would then clinch the win by earning three of the first four points in singles action. It started with Todd winning the No. 6 match 6-2, 6-1 and
Andres Reyes earning a 6-1, 6-4 win in the No. 3 match. After Marymount (2-8, 1-7) got a point in the No. 4 match,
Dong Hyun Kim clinched the win by taking the No. 5 match 7-5, 6-0.
E.Couto would secure the final point of the day for the Spirit with a 6-2, 7-5 win in the No. 2 singles match.
If the Spirit want a shot at finishing second in the GSAC, they need a win at No. 25 Westmont on Saturday. That match will begin at 3 p.m. in Santa Barbara, Calif.
