SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ men's tennis team picked up a pair of home wins on Tuesday by defeating Hastings and Southwest by identical 9-0 scores at the Surprise Tennis Complex.
In the first dual of the day, OUAZ (6-4) claimed all nine points with eight of the matches ending in straight sets. Only
Leonardo Couto in the No. 1 singles match was pushed to a tiebreak. Couto secured the 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (5) win to keep the sweep alive.
Austin Todd scored the clinching point with his 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 5 singles match.
Against Southwest, the Spirit faced little resistance in winning all nine duals. They dropped just two games in the three doubles matches and then swept all six singles matches by dropping only seven games.
Noel Maurin won the No. 3 singles dual 6-0, 6-0 while Todd did the same in the No. 4 singles.
Eduardo Couto and
Dong Hyun Kim won their singles matches 6-1, 6-0.
The Spirit will play their next five duals on the road, starting on Thursday at Biola.
