LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. – The OUAZ softball team spent the week in California where they dropped three games on Friday and then had a pair of games rained out on Saturday. The TSC SoCal NAIA Classic was played at the Rosetta Canyon Park.
OUAZ (1-6) started the weekend with a 17-5 loss to No. 3 Southern Oregon and then they fell to Marymount California 9-6. In the final game on Friday, Northwest Christian shutout the Spirit 8-0. OUAZ was scheduled to play No. 16 Corban and La Sierra on Saturday.
GAME 1 – SOUTHERN OREGON
After Southern Oregon (3-1) scored six runs in the second inning, OUAZ came back with four runs of their own to keep it close early.
Amanda Almond and
Emily Stebbins each had 2-run singles in the inning for OUAZ.
Southern Oregon would pull away with three runs in the fifth and six more in the sixth to secure a 6-inning victory.
Sabrina Jimenez suffered the loss after allowing seven runs (five earned) in 2.1 innings of work.
GAME 2 – MARYMOUNT CALIFORNIA
Stebbins and Almond each added another two RBI against Marymount California (1-0), but the Spirit didn't have enough answers for the nine runs from the Mariners.
Bailey Coronado took the loss in the circle with five runs (three earned) allowed in her two innings of action.
GAME 3 – NORTHWEST CHRISTIAN
The final game of the day saw Northwest Christian (1-1) score twice in the second inning and then six times in the third inning to finish a 5-inning win. They held the Spirit to just four hits with two coming off the bat of
Miranda Davis.
Alexandra McCutcheon allowed six runs (five earned) in 2.1 innings to take the loss.
NEXT UP
OUAZ is back in California next weekend for a pair of doubleheaders. They visit Antelope Valley for two games on Friday before playing two games at Marymount California on February 16.
