SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ men's tennis team returned to action on Saturday where they dropped a tight 5-4 decision to Western New Mexico – a NCAA Division II team – at the Surprise Tennis Center.
OUAZ (0-2) held a 2-1 lead after the doubles matches with wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
Eduardo Couto and
Leonardo Couto won the No. 1 match 8-6 while
Austin Todd and
Jordan Petrie won uncontested.
E.Couto added his second point of the day with a 6-1, 6-2 win at singles No. 1. The Spirit's fourth point came from
Eric De Romas with an uncontested win at singles No. 6.
Austin Todd dropped his singles No. 5 match in three sets by scores of 3-6, 7-5, 0-6. No other OUAZ player took more than three games in a set.
OUAZ will open Golden State Athletic Conference play on Friday at 9 a.m. against San Diego Christian. They will also host Lewis-Clark State at 2 p.m. that afternoon.
