ATHERTON, Calif. – The OUAZ women's basketball team saw its season come to an end with a 67-60 loss at No. 22 Menlo on Saturday afternoon in Golden State Athletic Conference play.
OUAZ ends its second season, and first in the GSAC, with a 10-15 overall record. They went 4-14 in GSAC games to finish eighth.
Trailing by two at halftime, the Spirit struggled in the third quarter and were outscored 23-5 by Menlo (20-8, 11-7). The deficit was still 20 with 5:32 remaining when the Spirit made an effort to pull the upset. Using an 18-3 run, OUAZ got within 62-57 with 1:32 on the clock before the Oaks were able to regain some control and hang on for victory.
OUAZ finished the game shooting 36.1 percent from the field while going 9 of 26 from beyond the arc. They tallied 11 assists and forced 20 turnovers that resulted in 20 points.
Bailey Osmer led the Spirit with 12 points and 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season.
Seven Spirit players had at least six points.
Jorie Mayfield and
Elizabeth Garcia scored nine points apiece while
Alexis Smith and
Celeste Lira had eight each.
Menlo shot 45.6 percent with 36 points in the paint. Aliyah Brantley led all scorers with 21 points.
