ROSEVILLE, Calif. – The OUAZ women's tennis team made some history on Friday afternoon as the Spirit defeated William Jessup 9-0 to record the program's first-ever Golden State Athletic Conference win. It was also the team's first win of the season.
The 9-0 win also marks the first time in program history that OUAZ (1-4) has swept a match.
In a day full of firsts,
Bianca Amaya,
Jocelyn Torres, and
Stevie Wenzel each recorded their first singles wins at OUAZ. Amaya won her No. 4 match 7-5, 6-2 while Torres won at No. 5 by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Wenzel won her match 6-1, 6-3.
Julia Ortiz earned a No. 1 singles win 6-3, 6-3 for her second straight singles victory.
Michelle Fournier also earned a second straight win after taking the No. 3 match 7-5, 6-1.
Hana Papaco swept her No. 2 match 6-0, 6-0.
The doubles team of Ortiz and Papaco scored an 8-2, 8-2 victory for their first win of the season. Amaya and Fournier won their match 8-2, 8-2 while Torres and Wenzel also won 8-2, 8-2.
OUAZ is back in action on Saturday when they face Fresno Pacific in a non-conference dual that starts at 3 p.m. (Arizona).
