OUAZ Hosts Saint Katherine in Pair of Weekend Doubleheaders

THE AGENDA
The OUAZ softball team looks to get back to action this weekend when they host a pair of doubleheaders against Saint Katherine. The teams will play the first set of games on Friday at 2:30 p.m. before playing another set of games on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
 
All four games of the series will be played at the softball field at Willow Canyon High School. Admission is free and fans are encouraged to park near the tennis courts on the south side if the school and walk back to the field.
 
Live video will be available during Saturday's two games on the NAIA Network and the OUAZ Game Central portal. Live stats will be available for all four games. ABOUT THE SPIRIT
After having their past six games cancelled due to rain, OUAZ looks to get back on the field with a 1-6 overall record and looking to snap a three-game losing streak. They haven't played since February 8 when they went 0-3 at the SoCal NAIA Classic. The Spirit are 1-3 at home this season.
 
The Spirit enter the week batting .287 as a team with an average of 7.14 hits per game. They have a .413 on-base percentage and .379 slugging percentage. The team has recorded 11 doubles, one triple, and one home run. They are scoring 5.29 runs per game and have stolen five bases in eight attempts.
 
In the circle, OUAZ has a 6.35 earned run average (ERA) with opponents hitting .327. In 43 innings of work they have allowed 64 hits and 56 runs (39 earned). The opposition has 16 doubles, one triple, and four home runs. The Spirit have tallied 24 strikeouts against 29 walks allowed;
 
OUAZ has committed 16 errors for a .920 fielding percentage. They have caught seven of 15 base stealers for a .682 stolen base against percentage.
 
AT THE PLATE
Emily Stebbins leads the Spirit with eight hits and a .444 batting average. She has four doubles and one home run for a .833 slugging percentage. Stebbins has walked five times and carries a .583 on-base percentage. She is tied for the team lead with eight runs batted in. She will enter the weekend on a four-game hitting streak.
 
Amanda Almond is batting .350 with seven hits and eight RBI. She leads the club with four multi-RBI games. Almond has scored five runs and has one double and three walks. She started the season with a six-game hitting streak before going hitless against Northwest Christian.
 
Miranda Davis has tallied seven hits for a .333 batting average. She is tied for the team lead with two multi-hit games. Davis has a pair of extra-base hits with a double and a triple for a .476 slugging percentage with five RBI. She starts the weekend have reached base in six straight games.
 
Ashton Aggers is batting .333 (7-21) with one RBI and two runs scored. She has one of the team's two 3-hit games this season while drawing four walks for a .440 on-base percentage.
 
IN THE CIRCLE
Sabrina Jimenez leads the Spirit with a 4.11 ERA with an 0-3 record in five appearances (two starts). Opponents are hitting .290 off Jimenez with eight extra base hits. She has eight strikeouts and allowed seven walks.
 
Bailey Coronado is 0-2 with a 7.00 ERA in six appearances (one start). She is allowing opponents to hit .333 with six extra base hits. Coronado has seven strikeouts and nine walks in 13 innings of work.
 
Alexandra McCutcheon has made five appearances with four starts in going 1-1 with an 8.20 ERA. The opposition hits .353 with seven extra base hits. McCutcheon has recorded nine strikeouts and given up 13 walks.
 
ABOUT SAINT KATHERINE
Saint Katherine comes to Surprise at 3-8 on the season after splitting a pair of games against San Diego Christian last week. The Firebirds are hitting .322 with an .822 OPS with 10 doubles and nine home runs. They have a 10.24 ERA and 2.53 WHIP while opponents are batting .406 off the staff. Destiny Reyes leads the team with 15 hits and a .469 batting average.
 
OUAZ dropped both games of a series that was played at Saint Katherine last season.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Spirit will take to the road next weekend to open Golden State Athletic Conference play. They play a doubleheader at Menlo on March 1 and a second doubleheader at William Jessup on March 2.
