Tourney Run Ends in Championship Game

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The OUAZ women's soccer team saw its magical run through the NCCAA National Championship come to a close on Saturday night with a 1-0 loss to Cedarville in the tournament's championship game.

OUAZ wasn't able to crack the Cedarville defense that didn't allow a goal in their four-game championship run. The Spirit were only able to get off five shots in the game, but they did put four of those chances on goal.

The Yellow Jackets tallied the game's only goal in the 16th minute when Aleah Martone converted a penalty kick after a hand ball was whistled against OUAZ on a crossing attempt on the edge of the penalty area.

With that advantage to start the second half, Cedarville was content to sit back and allow their defense to keep the Spirit chances to a minimum. OUAZ's best chance came in the 82nd minute on a header from Alyce Hancock that was saved. They had a final chance on a corner in the final moments that was grabbed out of the air by the Yellow Jackets keeper, Allison Garlock.

After the game it was announced by the NCCAA that Cassidi Calzaretta and Sarah Inafuku from OUAZ were named to the All-Tournament Team. In the four games at the Championship, Calzaretta scored four goals with one assist and Inafuku had two goals and three assists.

The result ends the third season in program history with a 15-8-1 overall record and a school record for wins in a season. They reached the NCCAA Championship game for the first time while also placing fourth in the Golden State Athletic Conference and winning a game in that conference tournament.
