KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The OUAZ women's soccer team is headed to the semifinals of the NCCAA National Championship after the Spirit defeated Mid-America Christian 2-0 to win Pool C on Wednesday at the Austin-Tindall Sports Complex.
After needing a late goal to win their pool opener on Monday, OUAZ (15-7) went ahead in the 12th minute on Wednesday when
Grace Green scored a fantastic goal on a shot from 35-yards out that went across the goal and snuck inside the right post for just her second goal of the season.
Knowing they needed a win to reach the semifinals, the Spirit would double their lead in the 67th minute as
Paige Murray-Hernandez scored her sixth goal of the season after
Keana Barrow flicked the ball to setup the strike.
That would be enough as
Krysten Caballero made three saves to add to her school record total of seven shutouts this season.
OUAZ attempted 17 shots in the win and put 13 of those chances on goal. MACU (14-6-1) took 10 shots overall, but only got three of them on frame.
Wednesday's results ended with the Spirit earning the No. 2 seed in bracket play where they will face No. 3-seed Campbellsville in the semifinals on Friday at 5:30 p.m. (AZ). OUAZ defeated the Tigers 2-0 in pool play last season.
