The OUAZ women's soccer team went into its showdown with The Master's on Saturday with the third seed in the GSAC tournament on the line. Despite a valiant second half effort, OUAZ was unable to secure the spot they wanted.
The Spirit got two goals from
Keana Barrow and
Saipress Jones in the second half, but could not find the equalizer as OUAZ fell to the Mustangs 3-2 on Saturday. It was the third straight loss for the Spirit.
OUAZ played evenly with the Mustangs, and the stats show it. The Spirit had ten shot attempts (six on target) to The Master's eleven shots on target. The Mustangs were able to find the target more often with its attempts, as they had ten of eleven shots on goal.
Krysten Caballero made seven saves in the loss.
Jones' goal was her 12th of the season, which is second best in the conference. She finishes the regular season leading the conference in assists (9) and points (33).
OUAZ's loss means they will be the four seed in the GSAC tournament. They will host its first round matchup against Hope International at Spirit Field. The game will be played Saturday, November 9, and kickoff is scheduled for Noon Arizona Time.
