SURPRISE, ARIZ. - The OUAZ men's basketball team had a chance at revenge on Saturday against Benedictine-Mesa. While the Spirit were matching up with the RedHawks in friendlier confines than the first meeting just 14 days earlier, they were still unable grab a victory.
OUAZ led by one with 2:29 to go, but Benedictine-Mesa scored the game's final five points to take home an 87-82 win. The Spirit have lost both games to the RedHawks this year, and the schools are not scheduled to meet again in the regular season.
Dimetres Moore led the way again for the Spirit, as he scored 35 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Brian Carey dished nine assists to go along with 14 points.
It took the teams awhile to get going on offense, but once they did, points came from every direction. OUAZ shot 42.9% from the floor in the first half while Benedictine-Mesa shot 42.4%. The second half saw a drastic rise in shooting percentage for both teams, as the RedHawks shot 56.2% in the final 20 minutes while the Spirit knocked down 55.9% of its shots in the same timeframe.
The Spirit will have the first half of the week off from games, but get back on the court next Thursday. They will travel to the far East Valley to take on Park-Gilbert, a program in its first season as a program. Tipoff from Gilbert, Ariz. is scheduled for 7:30 Arizona Time.
