OUAZ traveled to Westmont on Halloween and found themselves in a nightmare situation, down 3-0 just 15 minutes into the game. While the Spirit had a better start against the Warriors on Thursday, they still could not find the desired results.
Westmont scored two goals in a 1:24 stretch, and that is all they needed to defeat OUAZ in the GSAC Tournament Semifinal. The Spirit now have a record of 13-7 following its 1-1 performance in the conference tournament.
The Spirit had a hard time getting its offense going, as they did not register a shot on goal or a shot attempt. Westmont fired 22 shots, with six of them hitting the target. OUAZ goaltender
Krysten Caballero made four saves in the loss.
The first goal was scored via some unusual circumstances. Caballero caught a shot, and her momentum pushed her backward toward the goal. As she fell to the ground with the ball in her hands, it was ruled that she carried the ball over the goal line, giving Westmont the 1-0 lead. The Warriors second goal came off a deflection that carried into the upper left corner.
The Spirit now await an announcement on further postseason play. They have already qualified for the NCCAA national tournament, but still have a chance at the NAIA national tournament. The NAIA will announce the participating schools on Monday.
