No. 18 Spirit Travel to Texas College on Saturday

OUAZ FOOTBALL GAME 6 NOTES
• The 18th-ranked OUAZ football team returns to the road this week as they visit Texas College in a Sooner Athletic Conference game on Saturday, October 12.

• The game is scheduled for an 11 a.m. (CDT) / 9 a.m. (AZ) kickoff at Mewbourne Stadium in Tyler, Texas.

• Saturday's contest is the second all-time meeting between the Spirit and the Steers and the first in Texas. OUAZ earned a 63-14 win at Spirit Field on October 13, 2018.

• The Spirit take to the road at 5-0 overall this season and in first-place in the SAC with a 3-0 conference record. Texas College is 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

• On the road this season, OUAZ holds a 2-0 record while Texas College has gone 0-3 in home games.

SOONER ACTION
• OUAZ looks to stay perfect in conference play and extend its seven-game SAC wining streak that dates back to October 6 of last season. During the streak, OUAZ is 2-0 in the road.

• The Spirit are 8-3 all-time in SAC games and they are 2-2 in road conference games.

GAME 6 HISTORY
• OUAZ is 1-0 in the team's sixth game of the season after securing a 73-28 home win over then-No. 18 Arizona Christian last season.

• This is the first time the team has been 5-0 heading into the season's sixth game after sitting at 3-2 last season.

• This is the first time the Spirit will play their sixth game of the season on the road.

LOOKING BACK
• OUAZ moved to 5-0 on the season with a 47-7 win at Oklahoma Panhandle State last Saturday in Goodwell, Okla.

• After falling behind 7-0, the Spirit scored 47 unanswered points to win their second road game of the season. 

• OUAZ totaled 455 yards of total offense and went 12 of 19 on third down in the win. They also got points from the defense for a second straight week.

NATIONAL POLL
• OUAZ moved up another two positions to No. 18 in this week's AFCA/NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll that was released on Monday.

• It marked the fourth consecutive poll the Spirit have gained positions as the received 129 points.

CHECKING ALL THE POLLS/COMPUTERS
• OUAZ remained at No. 2 in this week's NCCAA rankings. Those national ratings are all based on the Massey Ratings system.

• In the Massey Ratings for the NAIA, the Spirit made a six-spot climb to No. 24 after their road win last Saturday.

• They also jumped five places to No. 12 in the current ratings at CompughterRatings.com.

ANOTHER ROUND OF AWARD WINNERS
• Following the win at Panhandle State, Christian Viville was named the NCCAA Defensive Player of the Week.

• Viville finished the game with 1.5 sacks and a 40-yard fumble return for a touchdown. He currently leads the NCCAA with seven sacks on the season.

• John Williams was named the SAC Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season on Monday.

• Williams scored 11 points at OPSU by making both field goal attempts and converting 5 of 6 PAT chances.

OFFENSIVE POWER
• The high-tempo OUAZ offense heads to Texas averaging 51.0 points per game where they rank second in the NAIA while their 255 total points are third most in the national association.

• The Spirit have scored at least 40 points in four of their five games this season and they have never scored fewer than 34 points in the program's 15-game history.

• They join Morningside (64.0) as the only team's in the NAIA to currently average more than 50 points per game.

• OUAZ is also second in the NAIA in total offense by averaging 50.3.6 yards per game. That trails only the 620.3 average of Morningside and those are the only two NAIA schools above 500 yards of offense per game for the season.

• The Spirit are tops in the country by passing for 344.6 yards per game. Only seven teams in the NAIA are currently averaging 300-plus passing yards per game.

• The team's 19 passing touchdowns are second to the 21 by Kentucky Christian.

DON'T OVERLOOK THE DEFENSE
• OUAZ opponents are scoring just 20.8 points per game this season with three of the five scoring 21 or less.

• The Spirit enter the week first in the SAC and 28th in the NAIA in scoring defense.

• Opponents are throwing for only 189.6 yards per game with three teams being held under 200 passing yards.

• The Spirit are 42nd nationally in passing defense, but they are 16th in the NAIA by holding opponents to a 96.6 passer rating.

• OUAZ ranks 17th in the NAIA with 15 total sacks and by getting 3.0 sacks per game. They are tied for the conference lead with seven interceptions.
