No. 20 Football Makes First Trip to Panhandle State

OUAZ FOOTBALL GAME 5 NOTES
• After playing their past three games at home, No. 20 OUAZ football will head on the road the next two weeks. They begin with a trip to play at Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday, October 5 in a Sooner Athletic Conference game,

• The game will kickoff at 1 p.m. (CDT) / 11 a.m. (AZ) from Carl Wooten Field at Anchor D. Stadium in Goodwell, Oklahoma.

• OUAZ and Panhandle State will play for the second time on Saturday with the Aggies holding a 1-0 lead in the series. OPSU kicked a field goal as time expired for a 38-35 win last season at Spirit Field.

• The Spirit enter Saturday with a 2-0 record in SAC games where they are currently in a three-way tie atop the conference standings.

HOW TO FOLLOW
• OPSU will provide live video coverage of Saturday's game through OPSU Aggies All-Access.  The link to view the game can be found at OUAZSpirit.com/watch.

• Live stats will also be available during the game at OUAZSpirit.com/stats.

SOONER ACTION
• OUAZ heads to Oklahoma on a six-game winning streak in SAC play. The streak dates back to a home win on October 5 of last season and includes one road victory.

• The Spirit are 7-3 all-time in SAC games and they are 1-2 in road conference games.

GAME 5 HISTORY
• OUAZ is 0-1 in program history when playing the fifth game of the season. They suffered a 54-36 road loss to SAGU in last season's fifth game.

• The Spirit carried a 2-2 record into the fifth game of the season last year, compared to their 4-0 start this season.

• This is the second straight season OUAZ will play their fifth game of the season on the road.

LOOKING BACK
• OUAZ dropped a school record for scoring as they moved to 4-0 with an 80-21 win over Wayland Baptist on Saturday at Spirit Field. 

• They scored 49 points in just the second quarter in taking a 73-7 lead into halftime. The Spirit scored three defensive/special teams touchdowns in the win.

• OUAZ gained 549 yards of total offense while setting a school record with 466 yards passing. They forced five Pioneers turnovers and turned those into 24 points.

ANOTHER SPOT UP
• Following the win on Saturday, OUAZ gained another spot to No. 20 in this week's AFCA/NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll that was released on Monday.

• The Spirit received 104 points in the poll to find themselves inside the top 25 for the third straight week after making their debut in the season's first regular season poll.

CHECKING ALL THE POLLS/COMPUTERS
• OUAZ remained at No. 2 in this week's NCCAA rankings. Those national ratings are all based on the Massey Ratings system.

• In the Massey Ratings for the NAIA, the Spirit enter Saturday's game at No. 30 after moving up  one spot in the computer poll from last week.

• This week's CompughterRatings.com ratings have the Spirit at No. 17 after their four-spot jump from the previous week's rankings.

FIRST NATIONAL AWARD
• Austin McCullough became the first player in OUAZ history – in any sport – to receive a national player of the week from the NAIA when he was awarded the Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

• His 398 yards and seven touchdowns in only playing the first half also helped McCullough earn the weekly offensive honor in the NCCAA and the SAC.

• This is the second time this season McCullough has been named the offense winner for the SAC and his first NCCAA award of the year. 

• He received the NCCAA honor twice last season and once from the SAC.

VIVILLE NAMED DEFENSIVE POW
• Christian Viville was named the SAC Defensive Player of the Week to give the Spirit two of the three conference awards for the third time this season.

• Viville earned the honor behind his 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in the win over Wayland Baptist.

• This is his first player of the week award and its the second time in program history an OUAZ player has earned the defensive award.

OFFENSIVE RANKINGS
• After scoring 80 points and gaining 549 yards against Wayland Baptist, OUAZ is the conference leader in every offensive statistical category.

• The Spirit are fourth in the NAIA by scoring 52.0 points per game.

• They are second in the country in averaging 515.8 yards per game while sitting fourth in the country at 25.3 first downs per outing.

• Their 348.8 passing yards per game is also second in the nation and the team is 14th with a 154.2 passing efficiency. 

• Rushing the ball, OUAZ averages 167.0 yards per game to rank 37th in the NAIA.

DEFENSIVE RANKINGS
• OUAZ enters the week allowing 396.8 yards per game where they rank 64th in the country.

• The opposition averages 191.0 rushing yards per game while throwing for 205.8 yards per contest.

• OUAZ is 36th in the NAIA in scoring defense at 24.3 points allowed per game.
