SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ men's tennis team opened the 2019 campaign on Friday afternoon by falling to UC Riverside of NCAA Division I 7-0 at the Surprise Tennis Center.
The day started with OUAZ (0-1) falling in all three doubles matches.
Eduardo Couto and
Leonardo Couto pushed their match to the limit before falling 7-6.
Peter Hariri and
Dong Hyun Kim dropped their match 6-2 and
Austin Todd and
Jordan Petrie fell 6-4.
In the singles No. 1 match,
Eduardo Couto took the opening set from his UC Riverside (1-0) counterpart 1-6 before Kyle McCann rallied back to win the next two sets 6-0 and 6-2.
Leonardo Couto dropped his match 2-6, 0-6 while Kim fell in his match 4-6, 4-6.
Todd suffered a 3-6, 0-6 defeat in the No. 4 match while Hariri fell by the same score at No. 5. In the No. 6 match, Petrie was defeated 4-6, 5-7.
After playing a couple of scrimmages on February 6 and 8, OUAZ is back in action on February 9 when they host Western New Mexico at the Surprise Tennis Center at 10 a.m.
