FULLERTON, Calif. – The OUAZ men's basketball team fell to Hope International 72-58 on Thursday night in a Golden State Athletic Conference game to start a two-game weekend road trip.
OUAZ (3-11, 1-4 GSAC) hung around for the first 25 minutes as they were down 44-40 with 14:11 to play in the second half. Hope International (13-3, 4-1) would then use an 8-2 run to get the lead to double-digits and then a 9-2 run with just under five minutes to play to seal the win.
In the loss, OUAZ shot 37.3 from the field with 32 points in the paint and seven made threes. The Spirit struggled at the line by making just one of their eight attempts. They committed only eight turnovers and only got eight points from 12 turnovers by the Royals.
Brian King Jr. notched a double-double for the Spirit with 17 points and 10 rebounds. His first double-double of the season came on 7 of 25 shooting with two 3-pointers.
Marcus Williams added 12 points, three rebounds and two assists.
HIU shot 53.7 percent with a 44-28 rebounding advantage. Josh Powell-Davis led for Royals in double figures with 20.
The Spirit will now head to San Dimas, California where they will face Life Pacific on Saturday at 4 pm MST in the final game of their four-game road swing.
