SURPRISE, Ariz. – Three days after suffering their first loss of the season the OUAZ men's soccer team rebounded in a nice way with an 11-0 home win over Providence Christian College on Thursday night at Spirit Field.
After being shutout on Monday, OUAZ (5-1) wasted little time getting on the board in this one as
Victor De La O buried a cross from
Kyle McDowell for a 1-0 lead just 65 seconds into play.
Samuel George would then add consecutive goals in the sixth and 13th minutes to make it 3-0.
The rout was on from there with the Spirit getting goals from 10 different players and a point from 15 different players. Along with De La O,
Jacob Garcia,
Carlos Lopez,
Bryan Hernandez,
Miguel Acosta, Victor Varajo, and
Chase Castro all added their first goals of the year.
OUAZ dictated pace and pressure all night and they ended the game with 24 total shots and 13 shots on goal. The 11 goals rank as the second most scored in a game in school history while the 24 shots is fourth most. They would tie the school record with nine assists.
Joining George with a multi-point game was McDowell, Castro,
Ricardo Navarro, and Hernandez. McDowell finished with a pair of assists while the other three had one goal and one assist each.
The Spirit had 24 players play in the game with 14 of them taking at least one shot. Nine of the 11 starters didn't play in the second half.
Andrew Tamburra went the distance in goal and made one save to record his second win and first shutout of the season.
OUAZ now has a small break before returning to action on September 13 at home against Benedictine University Mesa. The second game of a doubleheader with the women that night is slated for an 8 p.m. first touch.
