OUAZ Has Winning Streak Snapped by EOU

Spirit fall to 4-1 on the season

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ men's soccer team's perfect start to the season came to an end on Monday as Eastern Oregon University handed the Spirit a 1-0 loss at Spirit Field.
 
The game was fairly even all afternoon with neither team breaking through in the first half. OUAZ (4-1) had a chance to take the lead in the 55th minute with a free kick from Giovanni Ruelas. His attempt cleared the wall of defenders before being punched out by the Eastern Oregon (2-1-1) keeper.
 
EOU would secure the game's lone tally in the 74th minute on a penalty kick from Carlos Solorio. The attempt was setup by a scramble in the penalty area to resulted in a foul against the Spirit. Solorio would put his kick to the right by a diving OUAZ keeper.
 
OUAZ had three shots the rest of the way and the two shots on goal were each turned aside by the visiting keeper, Aidan Wright.
 
The game ended with EOU holding a 15-12 edge in total shots. OUAZ put nine of their total attempts on goal with the visiting side finishing with eight shots on target.
 
John Kanner led OUAZ with three shot attempts. Mauricio Ochoa and Samuel George had two shots on goal apiece.
 
Yuri Nascimento suffered his first loss of the season in goal despite making five saves.
 
This was the first of four straight home game for the Spirit with the next scheduled for Thursday at 8 p.m. against Providence Christian College.
