SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team saw its two-match winning streak come to an end on Saturday as the Spirit were swept by No. 21 Vanguard at Willow Canyon High School in Golden State Athletic Conference action.
OUAZ (8-7, 3-5 GSAC) couldn't match the offensive effort from Friday night as the totaled just 26 kills and hit .071 in the 25-16, 25-15, 25-17 loss.
Vanguard (17-3, 5-2) created matchup issues for OUAZ as the Lions attacked all across the net to the tune of 45 kills and .386 hitting. The Spirit managed just 27 digs and three blocks in trying to slow the opponents attack and they would finish with just a pair of service aces.
One night after three players reached double figures in kills, OUAZ had no players hit the mark on Saturday.
Jorie Mayfield,
Jessica Youngberg, and
Gianna Kioa tied for the team lead with six kills against the Lions.
Seleni Bartley got the start at libero for OUAZ and led the team with eight digs.
Austin Edwards added seven digs and three kills.
Rachel Kater finished the day with 17 assists, four kills, ad four digs.
Vanguard got a match-high 12 kills from Kamelah Noel.
OUAZ will be back in action on Tuesday when they welcome crosstown rival Arizona Christian to Willow Canyon High School at 6 p.m.
