Spirit Rout for Hawks for Historic Win

Lopez notches hat trick in the victory

SANTEE, Calif. – The OUAZ men's soccer team opened Golden State Athletic Conference play in impressive fashion as they dominated San Diego Christian 8-1 on Saturday evening to record the program's first-ever GSAC win.
 
OUAZ (8-1, 1-0 GSAC) took advantage of a hat trick from Carlos Lopez, including a pair of goals in the 14th minute to give the Spirit a 2-0 advantage. After San Diego Christian (1-5, 0-1) got one back in the 25th minute, Ricardo Navarro added a Spirit goal in the 27th minute to send the team to halftime with a 3-1 lead.
 
The Spirit continued the pressure in the second half with Lopez completing the trick in the 50th minute. Jordan Rocha put his name on the scoresheet in the 52nd minute to make it 5-1. OUAZ would added goals from Bradley Beck in the 62nd minute, John Kanner in the 65th minute, and Miguel Acosta in the 84th minute.
 
That OUAZ attack accounted for 22 total shots and 17 shots in goal. They also took nine corner kicks and held the Hawks to just five total shots and three shots on frame.
 
Lopez and Kanner led the team with three shots each and they both put all three attempts on goal.
 
Yuri Nascimento made two saves in goal to record the win.
 
The Spirit will face Saint Katherine on Monday in a non-conference game before taking on Arizona Christian next Saturday, October 6.
