SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ men's soccer team continued its solid play at home with an impressive 4-0 win over the University of Saint Katherine in non-conference play at Spirit Field on Saturday afternoon.
OUAZ (7-1) showed no signs of rust from not playing in over 10 days as they jumped on Saint Katherine (0-10) in the sixth minute when
Kyle McDowell buried his first shot of the day on a cross by
John Kanner.
Hazem Sobhy extended the Spirit advantage to 2-0 in the 18th minute when his shot across the goal to the left side of the net resulted in his first goal of the season.
Carlos Lopez played the ball into the area for the finish from Sobhy.
The Spirit would make it 3-0 just five minutes later when Lopez headed home a cross from McDowell for his third goal of the year. OUAZ would play more possession from there on out before a corner kick from
Jakob Pluta found its way into the net in the 84th minute for the game's final tally.
OUAZ ended the game with a 21-1 edge in total shots and they put 13 of those chances on goal. The Spirit had 11 players take at least one shot with five of those attempting multiple shots.
Yuri Nascimento made one save to record his fifth win and second shutout of the year.
The Spirit are now set to open Golden State Athletic Conference play next Saturday, September 29, in a game at San Diego Christian.
