SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team picked up a weekend sweep of conference matches after defeating Life Pacific College in three sets on Saturday afternoon at Willow Canyon High School.
One night after earning the first Golden State Athletic Conference win in school history, OUAZ (5-5, 2-2 GSAC) secured a 25-22, 25-18, 28-26 win over its fellow newcomer to the conference.
Austin Edwards provided a spark for the Spirit with a team-high 12 kills in just two sets played. After not playing in the first set, Edwards totaled eight kills in set two on her way to a new career high in the category. She hit .400 for the match and added four digs.
That effort helped OUAZ to a 37-30 edge in total kills as the Spirit finished the day hitting .162. They held Life Pacific (4-8, 0-4) to 30 kills and .104 hitting. OUAZ held a 49-42 advantage in digs and each team posted seven blocks.
Jorie Mayfield finished with 10 kills for a second straight match in double figures. She also led the way with five blocks and 12 digs.
Gianna Kioa matched those 12 digs and added eight kills.
Rachel Kater distributed 29 assists and
Kelsey Marchant had three service aces.
Life Pacific was led by nine kills from Jordin Bishop.
OUAZ will play its next four matches away from home, starting on Thursday with a non-conference match at Mills College in Oakland, Calif.
