Spirit Return Home to Face Panhandle State on Saturday

OUAZ looks for first conference win

THE GAME
>>> The OUAZ football team returns to Spirit Field on Saturday night when they host Oklahoma Panhandle State in the team's first Sooner Athletic Conference game at home.

>>> Saturday's game will kickoff at 7 p.m. with gates opening one hour earlier. Tickets information is available at OUAZSpirit.com/tickets.

>>> Saturday is Youth Sports Day and all children wearing a jersey representing their youth team will receive free admission.

>>> OUAZ will broadcast the game live on their Game Central portal and the NAIA Network for $7.95 with James Poovey (play-by-play) and Vince D'Aliesio (analyst) calling the action. The NAIA Network is available on Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, and Roku devices by searching NAIA.

SPIRIT NOTES
>>> OUAZ returns to Spirit Field at 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in SAC action. They won their lone home game of the year 51-19 over Cetys Universidad on August 25.

>>> This game begins a span of five OUAZ home games out of the next six games played. It's also the second of six straight weeks with a game.

>>> The Spirit moved up seven positions to No. 4 in this week's NCCAA rankings despite a 63-56 loss at Langston on Saturday.

>>> In his fifth season as a head coach, Mike Nesbitt has a 26-18 all-time record and a 1-1 record at OUAZ.

ABOUT PANHANDLE STATE
>>> Panhandle State will visit Surprise at 0-2 on the season after dropping games to Hastings (26-17) and West Texas A&M (42-7).

>>> The Aggies started the year receiving votes in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 Coaches' Poll after finishing 7-3 in 2017.

>>> OPSU averages 12.0 points and 273.0 yards of total offense this season. They are allowing 34.0 points and 361.5 yards through two games.

>>> Russell Gaskamp is in his seventh season as head coach of the Aggies with a 29-33 all-time record.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>>> OUAZ has totaled 1,000 yards of offense on 134 total plays through the team's first two games. They are averaging 7.5 yards per play

>>> Spirit opponents are scoring 41.0 points per game and averaging 389.5 yards per contest.

>>> In 30 offensive drives, OUAZ has scored 14 touchdowns and punted just six times. They have allowed 12 touchdowns on 30 defensive possessions.

>>> The Spirit have had success in the red zone with nine touchdowns on 11 red zone trips. One of the two trips includes running out the clock in the second half against Cetys.

>>> After having a negative-3 turnover margin against Cetys in the season opener, OUAZ was plus-two at Langston with three takeaways.

>>> Jack Graham leads the team with 532 yards passing and eight touchdowns, despite not playing the second half at Langston.

>>> He completes 58.5 percent of his passes with a 185.1 efficiency and two interceptions.

>>> Graham has also ran the ball six times for 16 yards.

>>> Austin McCullough went 14 of 18 for 212 yards and three touchdowns in the second half at Langsston.

>>> His 231.7 efficiency ratings featured a 72-yard touchdown pass.

IN THE BACKFIELD
 >>> Shamar Moreland leads the Spirit in rushing with 69 yards on 12 carries. He leads the team at 5.8 yards per carry with a long run of 36 yards.

>>> Moreland also has six catches for 79 yards.

>>> Joshua Vizcaya has gained 64 yards on 15 carries.

>>> Marcelous Chester-Riley has a team-high 19 carries for 61 yards. He also leads the team with two rushing touchdowns.

>>> Chester-Riley is also tied for the team lead with eight catches going for 83 yards and two scores.

ON THE OUTSIDE
>>> Jeremiah Greylock also has eight catches on the year with them accounting for 151 yards and a team-leading three touchdowns.

>>> Greylock had five catches for 138 yards and two scores – including a 72-yarder – at Langston on Saturday.

>>> Brandon McLaughlin has made five catches for a team-high 157 yards with two touchdowns.

>>> McLaughlin averages 31.4 yards per catch and had a team-long score if 86 yards against Cetys on August 25.

DEFENSIVE NOTES
>>> Amare Burks leads the team with 22 total tackles and 12 solo tackles. He tied for the team lead with 15 tackles (seven solo) at Langston on Saturday.

>>> Burks also has one fumble recovery.

>>> Da'Shawn Holcombe has made 21 total tackles (11 solo) in two games. He also has recorded two pass breakups and blocked one kick.

>>> Kenneth Steele Jr. has made 15 tackles and he leads the Spirit with 6.0 tackles-for-loss and 3.0 sacks.

SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES
>>> John Williams has converted 13 of 15 PAT attempts with one blocked. After failing on his first two attempts on Saturday, Williams converted his final six attempts.

>>> In 17 kickoffs, Williams is averaging 52.5 yards per kick with a net of 32.5 yards. The opposition has an average starting field position of their 32-yardline from kickoffs.

>>> Moreland has 10 kickoff returns for 323 yards with a long of 84 yards.

>>> Moreland also had three punt returns for 114 yards and one touchdown.

>>> Moreland leads the team with 585 all-purpose yards, including 437 yards from returns.
