Game Recap: Softball | | Alexandra Blaser

@OUAZSB Falls to the University of Saint Katherine

The Spirit drop both games in their doubleheader.

CARLSBAD, Calif. - The Ottawa University Arizona softball team fell to the University of Saint Katherine. Final scores were 6-5 and 5-2.

With the losses the Spirit's record falls to 8-34.

Saturday morning the Spirit began their game vs. the University of Saint Katherine Firebirds. In the first inning, both teams tested the defense of their opponent getting runs on the board early. Sydney Saxton earned the first run of the game with a home run to left field on a 2-2 count with Miranda Davis on second.

In the third, the Spirit would strike again attempting to keep pace with the Firebirds. KaeLynn Miller, this time, hit the second home run of the game on a 2-2 count.

OUAZ scored again in the fourth inning to close the gap to a 5-6 score and narrow the lead of the Firebirds. As the bases were loaded, an error from the Firebirds would allow Sydney Saxton to score, and a sacrifice fly from Kayla Jones would give Amanda Almond the second run of the inning.

The rest of the game remained scoreless, but the Firebirds would win 5-6.

The second game of the doubleheader started similarly with both teams scoring early in the first. For the Spirit, Sydney Saxton singled an RBI.

The Spirit would score again from a double by Savannah Brown to tie the score 2-2 in the top of the fifth. The Firebirds scored three more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to win the game 5-2.

OUAZ plays next at Benedictine University at Mesa in Mesa, AZ Wednesday, April 11th. The doubleheader starts at 11:00 am.
