Hope Int'l University Narrowly Defeats the Spirit

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Ottawa University men's volleyball team fell to Hope International University in five sets. Final scores for the match were 25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 23-25, 12-15.

With the loss the Spirit hold an 8-7 record.
The OUAZ men's team traveled to Fullerton, CA Friday evening to play Hope Int'l for the third time this season. The Spirit had defeated the Royals twice before in a five-game match at Darling Pavilion and a three-game set in Surprise, AZ.

In this match the Spirit got the early jump on the Royals staying ahead in the first match to win it 25-21. Game two both teams battled with back and forth momentum. The Royals made moves at 14-14 using OUAZ service and attack errors to jump ahead and win the game 25-21.

Game three followed similarly to game two, but with the Spirit using errors by the Royals and their own strategic offense to gain the lead late in the game and win 25-20. Game four was up for grabs between both teams and seemed that way until 15-15 when the Royals took the lead with their offense to win the game 25-23 and force the match into five sets. In the final game of the match, the Royals took advantage of OUAZ errors to get ahead early. The Spirit made moves late in the game to come back, but the Royals were able to maintain their lead to win the game 15-12.

OUAZ dominated at the service line with five aces, two of those belonging to Chris Brown. Bryan Ilena earned 13 kills for the game as well as 4 blocks leading in both categories.
