SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Ottawa University Arizona Softball team lost to Arizona Christian in a double-header Saturday afternoon. The final scores were 8-2 in game one and 9-3 in game two.
With the losses, the Spirit see their record fall to 1-5.
In the first game of the day, the ACU Firestorm and the OUAZ Spirit traded off earning runs and playing good defense. A double from ACU gave them the first spot on the board, but the Spirit replied with a double by
Sydney Saxton that drove
Chelsey Runyon into home. In the third ACU took a homerun hit off of OUAZ pitcher,
Sabrina Jimenez, but she responded with a strikeout to end the half of the inning.
Sabrina Jimenez pitched for the majority of this first game and saw 35 batters. She matched the ACU pitcher with three strikeouts.
The Firestorm turned up the intensity and outscored the Spirit for the rest of the game. Game one ended with an 8-2 loss for the Spirit.
Game two the Firestorm wasted no time in dominating the game, scoring a third of their runs in the first inning. The Spirit were able to score one run each in the bottom of the first and second to hang with the Firestorm. But the Firestorm would go onto score three runs in the 3rd and 5th to give them nine runs over the Spirit's two. To finish the game, OUAZ would score two more runs to end the game 9-4.
KaeLynn Miller had a good performance for this game earning one run, two hits and 1 RBI in three at-bats.
Bailey Honne was the only pitcher for OUAZ to strike out a batter.
