PRESCOTT, Ariz. - The Ottawa University Arizona softball team dropped both of their games Saturday against Goshen College from Indiana by a final of 9-0 in six-innings and 4-1. Both games were played as part of the ERAU Copper State Collegiate Classic; hosted by Embry-Riddle (AZ) University in Prescott.
With the losses Saturday, OUAZ falls to 2-19 on the season.
In game one Saturday, the Spirit and the Goshen College Maple Leafs stuck close with one another for the first three innings. Goshen then put together two big innings to put OUAZÂ away. The Maple Leafs scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning and then added another four runs in the top of the sixth inning for the 9-0 win in six innings.Â
The Spirit finished with eight hits in game one, but also recorded four errors as a team.
Game two was a bit closer, but once again the Maple Leafs finished with one big inning to seal the victory. Goshen struck for a four run fourth inning to take a early 4-0 lead. The Spirit tried responding, but could only add a run in the sixth inning and fell 4-1.
In the win, Goshen College made six errors.
Serenida Marquez went all six innings in game two, allowing four runs on 10 hits.
The Spirit return to action on March 5th, when they open up a five day, 10 game homestand. OUAZ welcomes Roosevelt University from Illinois to Willow Canyon High School on the 5th, with their doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1pm.
