SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Ottawa University Arizona men's tennis team fell on Sunday morning to NCAA Division II Sonoma State University, by a final of 6-1 at the Surprise Tennis Complex.
With the loss Sunday, the Spirit fall to 0-4 on the season.
Sunday's match was played by NCAA rules, where the team that claims at least two of the three doubles victories claims the point. Sonoma State University won the #1 and #3 doubles to claim the point, but the #2 doubles team of
Noel Maurin and
Andrew Noblett won their match 6-3.
In singles play, the Spirit fell in two sets in #1 through #4 singles.
Andrew Noblett faired well at #5 singles, but ended up losing a close match by a final of 6-7, 6-4, and 1-0 (11-9).
Picking up the lone singles victory for OUAZ was
Eric De Romas, who won at #6 singles by finals of 1-6, 6-4, and 1-0 (10-8).
The Spirit men return to the court Monday, when they travel to Mesa for an exhibition match against Mesa Community College at 1:30pm.
