SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Ottawa University Arizona men's volleyball team defeated the Hope International Royals in three sets on Friday evening inside of the Valley Vista High School gym. Final scores were 31-29, 25-16, and 25-15.
With the victory, the Spirit improve to 7-6 overall. With the loss, the Hope International Royals fall to 5-8 on the year.
It was a quick evening for the Spirit, as they only seemed challenged by the Royals in the first set. These two squads played eachother back on February 10th, with OUAZ coming out victorious 3-2. Friday's match was a little different. The first set was a battle between the Royals and the Spirit. In the end, OUAZÂ was able to hold off Hope International by a final of 31-29 to take the first set and lead 1 game to zero.Â
The Spirit kept their foot down on the gas pedal, as they quickly got through the Royals in the next two sets by finals of 25-16 and 25-15; to take the match three sets to nothing.
James Yahner led the way with eight kills, while
Andrew de'Leon finished with a team high 27 assists.
OUAZ returns to action this Thursday March 1st, when the Spirit host the University of California at Merced. The opening serve is set for 7pm at Valley Vista High School in Surprise.
