Spirit defeat crosstown rival Arizona Christian University in first match-up between schools

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Ottawa University Arizona baseball team drove across town Tuesday afternoon for a matinee at Arizona Christian University in Phoenix. The Spirit outslugged the Firestorm and claimed an 11-10 victory in a final 10-innings.

With the victory the Spirit improve to 4-11 overall, while the Arizona Christian Firestorm fall to 7-10 on the year.

The fireworks started early on Tuesday afternoon, as the Spirit struck for the games' first two runs in the top half of the first inning. OUAZ scored two unearned runs on a throwing error and a wild pitch. Arizona Christian would respond with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning to even the game at 2-2.

The Spirit struck for seven runs combined in the third and fourth innings. Josh Meyer got OUAZ on the board in the third inning with a solo homerun on a 2-0 count and no one on. The Spirit struck for six runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 9-5 lead heading into the fifth inning.

ACU clawed their way back into the game, by plating five combined runs in the sixth through eighth innings and forced extras all squared at 10-10.

Josh Meyer came up big for the Spirit yet again, as he singled to left field on a 2-2 count to score Chandler Reynard and put the Spirit ahead at 11-10.
