SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Ottawa University Arizona softball team fell to NAIA 5th ranked Corban University by a final of 10-1 in game one on Wednesday afternoon. Game two was canceled due to the heavy rain in Surprise.
With the loss, the Spirit fall to 2-13 overall. 5th ranked Corban University begins their 2018 season a perfect 1-0.
The 5th ranked Warriors struck first on Wednesday afternoon for a pair of runs in the second inning and never looked back. Corban University then struck for a run in the fourth inning, two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and another two runs in the seventh inning to seal the 10-1 victory.
The Spirit got on the board in the sixth inning, when
KaeLynn Miller hit a one out triple to right centerfield.
Miranda Davis singled in the next at-bat to drive in Miller for the lone run of the game for the Spirit.
In the circle,
Sabrina Jimenez (2-9) took the loss, going five innings and recording five strikeouts and just one walk.
Game two started out in OUAZ's favor, before the rain started to fall hard. It was a gloomy overcast day on Wednesday, but the teams were able to get the first game in without an issue. During the top of the fourth inning in game two, the rain was too much and forced a cancellation of the contest.
The Spirit return to action this Saturday, when they welcome back 5th ranked Corban University for another doubleheader beginning at 1pm at Willow Canyon High School.
