KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The OUAZ women's soccer team saw its run at the 2018 NCCAA Division I Women's Soccer National Championship come to an end with a 2-0 loss to Trinity Christian on Thursday afternoon at the Austin-Tindall Soccer Complex.
OUAZ ends the second season in program history with a 13-6-2 overall record and with a second straight trip to the NCCAA National Championship.
The Spirit entered the day needing a win or draw to reach the championship game of the tournament, but they fell behind 1-0 when Seleah Hopkins notched a goal from Trinity Christian (21-2-1) in the third minute. After getting outshot 8-2 in the first half, OUAZ found a few more chances in the second and the game ended with them taking eight shots and putting four on goal. Trinity Christian finished the game with 16 shots and 10 on target.
Sydnee Busby was the catalyst of the Spirit offense all season and that trend continued today as she got off seven shots attempts with three on goal. Crytsal Carroll had the team's other chance.
Emily Kriplean suffered the loss in goal for OUAZ despite tying a career-high with eight saves.
The Spirit finished the National Championship at 2-1 and placed second in Pool A.
