KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The OUAZ men's soccer wrapped up pool play at the 2018 NCCAA Division I Men's Soccer National Championship with a 2-0 loss against Grace College at the Austin-Tindall Soccer Complex on Wednesday evening.
With the loss, OUAZ (12-6-1) finished second in Pool B and had to go to the tiebreaker scenarios to determine their fate for Friday's semifinals. After all results, the Spirit advanced to the next round based few goals allowed than Bethel College.
The Spirit weren't able to create many chances on Wednesday with just three total shots – all in the first half – and none of them on goal. They surrendered 20 shots to Grace (15-3-4) with the Lancers putting 10 of those attempts on goal.
Grace got the game's first goal in the 14th minute when Marcelo Talamas scored on an open net after being setup by Ulisses Miranda. The Lancers doubled the advantage to 2-0 in the 84th minute after Miranda scored on a rebound.
OUAZ's three shots came from
Andrew Bravo,
Mauricio Ochoa, and
Samuel George.
Yuri Nascimento took the loss in goal after making eight saves.
In Friday's semifinal round, the Spirit will face No. 1 seed Southwestern Christian. The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. MST first touch. The game will be carried live on the NCCAA Network.
