KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The OUAZ men's soccer team saw its season come to an end with a 2-0 loss against Southwestern Christian in the semifinals of the 2018 NCCAA Division I Men's Soccer National Championship on Friday evening at the Austin-Tindall Soccer Complex.
While the results on Friday wasn't what OUAZ was hoping for, it is hard to overlook the run by the second-year program to the semifinals. They end their year with a 12-7-1 overall record, a sixth-place finish in the Golden State Athletic Conference, and their first taste of the postseason.
Friday saw the Spirit slip into an early hole as Igor Stojanovic put Southwestern Christian (18-4-1) in front 1-0 in the 16th minute. Stojanovic made it 2-0 in the 35th minute and the Eagles would close out the win from there.
OUAZ attempted just six shots in the game with
Ricardo Navarro getting the team's lone shot on goal while leading the Spirit with three total shots. They allowed Southwestern Christian 18 shots with seven of those on goal.
Yuri Nascimento went the distance in goal for the Spirit with five saves.
