Box Score SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team picked up a five-set win at Saint Katherine on Thursday night to record a school-record fourth straight victory.
OUAZ (14-11) had to fight off a rally from Saint Katherine (14-13) to earn the 25-14, 25-17, 23-25, 20-25, 15-13 win. The Spirit had won three straight matches on two different occasions, including earlier this season, but this is the first time the run has even reach four straight.
It took three players in double figures in kills to get the job done on Thursday.
Jorie Mayfield again led the way with 16 kills while hitting .243 with three blocks.
Austin Edwards added 14 kills and
Gianna Kioa added 12.
The Spirit had 58 kills as a team and they hit .181. Saint Katherine finished with 55 kills and .151 hitting. OUAZ had a 91-83 edge in digs and posted 10 blocks and 10 service aces.
Seleni Bartley and
Sierra Dominguez had 19 digs apiece to lead the Spirit.
Elizabeth Houk had a team-high three service aces and
Rachel Kater went for 43 assists and 13 digs.
The Firebirds got 16 kills from Rylee Zimmerman.
OUAZ will return to Golden State Athletic Conference play on Friday when they face No. 15 Vanguard at 7 p.m. in Costa Mesa, Calif.
