FULLERTON, Calif. – For the third time in as many chances this season the OUAZ men's soccer team responded from a loss with a victory as they picked up a 3-1 road win at Hope International on Saturday afternoon in Golden State Athletic Conference action.
OUAZ (11-3-1, 3-2-1 GSAC) opened the scoring in the 13th minute
Jacob Garcia was able to get his touch into the goal after being setup by
Ricardo Navarro. Hope International (5-9, 1-5) countered in the 19th minute with a goal from Jason Santana to level the game at 1-1.
Miguel Acosta sent the Spirit to the halftime break with a 2-1 lead when his shot in the 43rd minute was good for a goal and an assist from
Cristian Gennaro.
Mauricio Ochoa would add an insurance goal in the 68th minute as OUAZ complete the day's scoring.
The game ended with OUAZ holding a 12-9 advantage in total shots and putting nine of those chances on goal. Ochoa and Garcia each had three shots in the game with a pair of shots on goal.
Yuri Nascimento earned another win on goal for OUAZ with five saves.
The win has OUAZ in fifth-place in the GSAC standings with 10 points. They are headed home for the final two games of the regular season, starting on Thursday against Westmont College at 7:30 p.m. from Spirit Field.
