SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team recorded one of the signature wins in the brief history of the program as they overcame an 2-0 deficit to defeat William Jessup in five sets on Friday night at Willow Canyon High School.

OUAZ (11-11, 6-8 GSAC) dropped the first two sets before turning things around in the third set to start the comeback to win the match 18-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-8.

Things weren't going well for the Spirit in the opening two sets and they committed 16 hitting errors and allowed the visitors to hit .286 with just six errors. As the momentum changed, so did the effort as OUAZ committed just 12 errors in the final three sets and slowed the Warriors production. The Spirit completed the comeback with 11 kills and .450 hitting in the fifth set.

That final set effort allowed OUAZ to end the night with a 65-60 edge in total kills and hitting .195. They added an 8-6 lead in service aces and recorded nine blocks and 81 digs.

Jorie Mayfield led the way for OUAZ with 21 kills and .277 hitting. It is her second 20-plus kills match of the year and her third straight match with double-digit kills. Mayfield added to the performance with six digs and three blocks.

Gianna Kioa added 17 kills in the win, including three in the final set. She also tallied 13 digs for her third straight – and fifth overall – double-double.
